Today has been dedicated to our anti-bullying campaign, "Save Lives! Stop the Bullying!"
Members of Huntsville's newly formed "Coalition to End Bullying" met in our office and worked toward our goal of holding a community symposium in September.
Our next meeting is set for
April 17, 2012
Location: 600 St. Clair Ave. Bldg 7 Suite 16 Huntsville, AL 35801 (Our office inside the AIDS Action Coalition)
You are encouraged to attend and be part of this grassroots movement. I would love to have you specifically help with our "Save Lives! Stop the Bullying!" campaign. The funds we are trying to raise are needed to push this work forward as well as to support everything we do. I would like to sponsor very public and visible messages to raise awareness of bullying and to let youth know we are here for them but right now we do not have any funds available. No funds available means no money to carry out the mission of the agency which is service to our community.
Buttons arrived today from the Anti-Defamation League to promote the initiative to create 'NO place for HATE' schools throughout the Huntsville City Schools and beyond! I am proud that GLBT Advocacy & Youth Services is one of the forces moving this effort! In January we worked with other groups in the city to sponsor a 1/2 day workshop for faculty from Huntsville High School, Huntsville Middle School, and Hampton Cove Middle School presented by the Anti-Defamation League. The next step in this work to end bullying in our schools and to create a safe and healthy community for everyone involves a day long workshop this summer for ALL Huntsville City School system Middle schools and 9th grade academies! This workshop will include training to combat cyber-bullying and an orientation training to begin the process of creating 'NO place for HATE' schools throughout the school system. This training will be provided through the Anti-Defamation League with funding from Microsoft and other sources.
